Background History:
Ethnic Minorities Partnership Agency (EMPA) is an umbrella organisation bringing together and representing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups in Barking and Dagenham and its neighbouring boroughs.
The organisation has grown steadily since its inception in 1993 and provides a range of activities and services to its members.
Vision:
To empower the BAME organisations so that they are better able to develop and sustain their organisations, provide quality services to their service users, members and consequently raise their standard and quality of living.
Mission:
Building and strengthening the capacity of BAME communities
- Strategic Aims
- 1. To bring BAME groups together and to empower them to deliver effective services to their communities.
- 2. To serve as a strategic voice for BAME organisations in Barking and Dagenham, and influence policy development/implementation.
- Strategic objectives
- 1. To provide support, advice and necessary information to individuals and BAME groups.
- 2. To be actively involved in assisting BAME groups to secure funding for their services.
- 3. To raise awareness of the nature and extent of discrimination and inequalities experienced by BAME communities within the statutory, private and voluntary sector, promote good practice and equal access to services.
- 4. To work in partnership with other organisations in raising BAME issues, and concerns through campaigning, lobbying, representation, training and cultural awareness.
- 5. To encourage active involvement and participation from BAME communities in service planning and implementation in Barking and Dagenham, and its neighbouring boroughs.
